9 Ways To Eat Chocolate Whilst Dieting.

Now the bad news about chocolate.
Not all chocolate is created equal…at least in the finished product. The more processing that is involved generally removes more of the flavonoids.
Therefore, dark chocolate probably contains the most flavonoids and provides the most antioxidant qualities.
Do you enjoy eating chocolate but are now on a diet ( I hate the word diet it sounds so restrictive I prefer food lifestyle changes plan). You see it is funny when you don’t think of it as a diet and only as a change in what you eat it seems less radical and some how less painful don’t you agree.
The way I have found works for clients is a reward process not a regimen that makes you feel you are Paris Hilton and being locked away on County Jail for your sins.
Unfortunately, chocolate by itself doesn’t taste too good, so to make it palatable, fats and sugars are added. Those are the really bad things about chocolate, particularly if you are on a diet or in some other type of weight loss program.
So remember when making lifestyle changes of any sort always use a system of rewards and not punishments.
A good friend of mine rather jokingly said when helping people make changes to their diet I always use a carrot approach rather than a stick. (I am not sure he understood why but I just smiled).
Flavonoids: Android, asteroid? No relation. Flavonoids are pretty common throughout nature, and they are anti- a lot of bad health things. As you may have guessed, they are also antioxidants. They are found in all kinds of stuff, such as red wine, tea, and beer…AND…Chocolate! Oh yeah! You can also eat the fruits and veggies mentioned above and get them, but chocolate’s more fun, right?
So now you know my approach to getting results here is an idea for one of those treat days.
I want to give you some great ways you can enjoy one of most people’s favorite and usually forbidden foods chocolate with out feeling guilty.
Here are 5 of my favorite ways you can enjoy chocolate whilst making life style changes to your diet. Feel free to add any more with your comments at the bottom of this post.
As you can imagine, there is not a lot you can do about the ingredients added to chocolate. These ingredients are, for the most part, exactly the sort of things you need to avoid in your diet or on your weight loss program. However, regularly adding reasonable amounts of chocolate products to your diet can help you attain your weight loss goals in indirect ways.
- Take a few pieces of dark chocolate (which is best as it is high in anti-oxidants) melt it in the microwave or over a bowl of water in sauce pankeep stiring while melting. Once melted dip in pieces of fruit such as strawberries, mango, orange …. this is delicious will be fun to eat with your partner (feed each other it can be really quite sexy) but you will actually eat more fruit than chocolate and it will take ages to eat.
- Get a cheese grater and grate some chocolate in to a bowl (just a few squares of chocolate will create a massive pile of grated chocolate which takes ages to eat again. This can also be fun with a partner and you will eat even less it can get a bit messy so be prepared.
- Freeze a low fat chocolate mousse or make your own and freeze it (here is good recipe for frozen chocolate mousse) it will taste as good as ice cream but have but have a fraction of the calories as it is mainly made up of air which strangely enough won’t make you fat.
- Buy a small box of expensive Belgian Chocolates and every time you do something good like go for a brisk walk , have sushi instead of burger and fries or cook instead of dial a pizza reward yourself with a single posh choc.
- Have a low calorie chocolate cereal snack such as crisped rice choc chip bar which has low fat and 113 calories or the Quaker Chewwy Choc Bar which has 120 calories. But the best 2 of all are the Special K chocolate drizzle with just 90 calories is the Kellogs Coco Pops & Milk Bar with just 85 calories.
Ok you twisted my arm here a few more ways to enjoy a chocolate treat with out commiting too much of a sin. - Have a cup of Nestle, Carnation No Sugar Added Hot Cocoa Mix which is a almost healthy 55 calories with almost zero fat. [ No Marshmallows!]
- Slightly more sin full at 102 calories is Kraft, Jell-o Brand Fat Free Pudding Snacks Chocolate, but again would be oK for a rewarding treat. The even less naughty Kraft, Jell-o Brand Fat Free Sugar Free Instant Reduced Calorie Pudding & Pie Filling Chocolate which weighs in at just 34 calories.
- Chocolate Chips, Semi-Sweet by Compliment again a great reward with a 15g (around 1/4 cup) being only 80 calories.
- Frozen Yogurts, Chocolate, Soft-serve which is another good alternative to the frozen mousse and with 115 calories for a 1/2 cup (4oz) not as sin full as you might think.
Occasional chocolate treats are not of any great importance if you are doing everything else right. One candy bar or chocolate chip cookie is not going to destroy a week’s worth of adherence to your weight loss program. In fact, knowing that you can allow yourself a treat or reward for “being good” can help you get over some of the tough parts. This is particularly true if you have the sort of self control to keep portion sizes reasonable and spaced at sensible intervals… [read more]
One Day Miracle Diet – as dieticians put it – is a suitable diet program for gourmet buffs. This cholesterol lowering diet plan is quite simple – you diet for a day and eat full the next day and continue this routine until you feel that you have lost enough weight. It is also called the 24 hour Hollywood Miracle Diet.
During the dieting day, refrain from eating any other food than vanilla (every two hours) or chocolate diet wafers and raw fruits. Also, make it a point to drink lots of water (ideally 8 glasses of water or above). It is also advisable to follow a light exercise routine for better results. Walking short distances will serve the purpose.
The biggest advantage with one day cholesterol lowering diet programs is that the person undergoing dieting will not suffer any muscle loss. This is partially because of the high protein and low calorie content of the wafers, and partially due to the fact that the dieting person actually in fact is not completely severed from his/her eating habits. He/she can have any food he/she wants the every next day… [read more]
